Kinja'd!!!

I’ve been looking into potential replacements for my current DD. I’ve been seeing a lot of new-ish Focii available on the used market, for some shockingly reasonable prices.

What gives?

I know there have been transmission issues with the “automatics” (which are not traditional automatics), but otherwise, why the rapid falloff in resale?

Would any of you recommend one as a DD? Experience with cost-of-ownership? I’m planning to put down 70-80 miles per day of highway; are they comfortable in the long-term? I’ve been in a rental before, I remember feeling like i hated the dash, but that it was a solid car otherwise... for a week, at least.

Penny for your thoughts, Oppo.

I wonder if they’re coming from fleet sales. I love those cars. I was between that and Subaru. Subaru won only due to awd.

They (focus) are great cars that get great mileage and should hold up well over time.

It’s not a car I have enough experience with to give any solid advice, but my guess on the prices is that the older ones are coming out of of warranty/leases, and because ford offers so many incentives when the cars are new that they’re cheap enough that this ripples down to resale values. Just a guess, though

My DD is a ‘14 Focus SE with the manual transmission. There are issues with the dual clutch automatics so I’d recommend staying away from them. As a matter of fact I have the exact car in your photo...

Kinja'd!!!

The base SE has rear drum brakes, but the “sport” or “sport appearance” add in the rear discs. I have has no trouble with my car since getting it new, though I’m disappointed in the depreciation on them...

They’re good cars, they’re just cheap now because they were cheap (in price) to start with and there’s a million of them. Should be no problem finding one that has everything you want in it for cheap.

I've been driving one for the last week, with the dual clutch auto. Having only driven it a week, I can't speak to long term reliability, but you can definitely do a lot worse that a Focus. On the used market, it's a lot of car for not much cash, comparatively speaking.

though I’m disappointed in the depreciation on them...

I can certainly see why.

The main one i was looking at had a manual, so (hopefully) I’d avoid the tranny issues. Seems there’s a bunch of people with troublesome autos.
